Raps: Sir Edmund Hillary and Lord Rutherford of Nelson

Today we completed our raps.
We hope you enjoy these!

Here are our lyrics:
Sir Edmund Hillary Rap
By James and Joseph
Sir Edmund Hillary was born in Auckland
He was being chased by climbers up the mountain
He was wise and famous until he died
he didn’t give up, he just tried
So whatever you do,
Just don’t give up,
like Sir Edmund Hillary.
He just kept climbing
and if you see him on the $5 note,
make sure you say hello.

Lord Rutherford Of Nelson Rap
By Olly, Jonte and Daniel
Hey everybody have you heard of a man
His name is Ernest Rutherford, (Dan..)
He split an atom in half
By throwing other atoms in its path.
An atom is the smallest bit of something
It has lots of rays of energy, (sing..)
Ernest of Nelson, first man on earth
We all know what he is worth
($100 bill, yo!)
He really was quite smart,Ernest is the WISEst learner
He persevered and worked it out
And showed us all his heart.

Sir Edmund Hillary Rap
By Peni and Alex
Here are some things you probably don’t know
About Edmund Hillary, yo
He climbed Mount Everest with his friend Tenzing
Here is his message:
Never give up
If you climb that mountain
You’ll probably need Fresh Up
He was born in 1919
He died aged 88
Always try new things
That’s why he’s on the $5 note
Yeah, yeah, Edmund Hillary, yeah, yeah, Edmund Hillary
EDMUND…HILLARY
Thank you for listening to our rap about Edmund…Hillary

Our Final WISE Time

Today Room 5 and 6 hosted their final WISE Time with the Junior School. All the children wrote amazing speeches of their memories over the past three years. It was wonderful to see Te Wharekauri, Cerys and Jackson present their speeches to the whole Junior team. They spoke so well! Alexis and Peni also confidently presented their mihi.
Fantastic effort Room 5! It was wonderful to hear all those wonderful memories. I am going to miss you all so much!

Lord Rutherford of Nelson

Here is a video made by a group of us who were researching Lord Rutherford of Nelson who is on our $100 note. We hope you enjoy it!

Sir Apirana Ngata...

We have been working hard at completing our raps and videos for our inquiries into the famous New Zealanders on our bank notes. Today the Apirana Ngata group completed their rap. They wrote the lyrics and then recorded it on Garageband. We hope you enjoy it!

Here are our lyrics:

The Sir Apirana Ngata Rap
By Te Wharekuri, Jackson, Lilly, Emerson, Roslyn and Hunter
Hey everybody have you ever heard
Of a man called Apirana Ngata?
He was born in 1874
And he died 76 years after

Not many were smarter
Than Apirana Ngata
The first New Zealander to get a double degree
At Canterbury University,
Publishing a book about Maori culture
Showed the way for the future

After constructing many meeting houses
He promoted sports, kids off their couches
Did you know Apirana was the third Maori to be knighted?
On the $50 note he will be sighted

Apirana was a real WISE learner, yes he was!

Art Gallery Lesson

Today we were lucky enough to have a wonderful teacher from the Christchurch Art Gallery come in to Room 5 and teach us how to  make cool Christmas decorations with modelling clay. We made our own and then painted and put glitter on them. They will dry over night.
